From our humble beginnings playing Inner Explorer tracks on iPods, to expanding into a full online platform that is available in English and Spanish, we are proud to celebrate a decade of creating lasting change through mindfulness based social emotional learning (MBSEL). We decided to retain the original ‘Green Compass’ as an icon to represent our mission, and our journey ahead. “Green Compass’ is a gentle reminder that our work is to help navigate the process of learning
from the
inside out.
Lifelong friends Janice Houlihan and Laura Bakosh founded Inner Explorer as a non-profit to bring daily mindfulness into the classroom.
8-week research study demonstrated Inner Explorer's positive impact on 3rd grade students quarterly grades, behaviors and teacher stress reduction using valid research scales.
iPOD with Docking Speaker Launched.
Conducted Second (10 weeks) and Third (27 weeks) research studies on Inner Explorer's impact. Wisdom 2.0 Award recipient, funded by the 1440 Foundation. A Research study published on Inner Explorer's impact on elementary students' quarterly grades.

Serving 6,600 students, programs expanded from Early Learning to 12th grade once program fidelity established. Moved from a hard-wired device to an online platform.

International reach with the addition of Spanish speaking programs. Inner Explorer partnered with LG on their "Life's Good: Experience Happiness" initiative, providing 400 plus schools with the Inner Explorer program.

Laura discovered the benefits of mindful awareness more than 20 years ago when she was trying to manage the stress of travel and long workdays.
Janice came to know mindful awareness through her lifelong (since age 6) friend, Laura Bakosh. Having started a mindful practice as an adult.
Laurie spent 32 years seeking social justice for low-income communities when she wondered if teaching mindfulness to kids would be a good idea.
Lisa brings over 30 years of experience in mindfulness practices and as an MBSR instructor has provided Inner Explorer with input and expertise on program development and research since its inception.
Tabitha provides strong skills across many different areas of business operations, including finance, accounting, technology,project management and customer service.
Victoria González has a broad background of not-for-profit and general business, where she has specialized in marketing,leader development,strategic planning.
Paul is the chief architect of Inner Explorer’s technology platform and has 20+ years of experience in leveraging technology to drive business transformation.
Iris provides Inner Explorer with a variety of skills and capabilities in donor development, database improvement and administrative support.
Joan is a former Massachusetts public school teacher with sixteen years of experience teaching special education.
As a homeschooler, Travis was passionate about games in education and pioneered using Minecraft in Education at Da Vinci Innovation Academy.
