Mission Moments

Inner Explorer created Mission Moments to keep you updated on the impact your support and generosity has on those we serve. We want to share not only program developments, but also the stories that warm our hearts and fuel our mission to reach ten million mindful children by 2020. A goal we accomplished because of you. Thank you!

Mission Moments: June 2020

While some families aren’t able to take a family vacation or send their kids to camp, the harsh reality is that some families aren’t sure where their next meal is coming from or how their basic needs will be met.

It’s also important to note that the tragic killing of George Floyd has most likely impacted children's mental health as well.

To help shed some perspective on how our youth are coping during these unprecedented times, America’s Promise Alliance conducted a national survey, The State of Young People During COVID-19 of more than 3,000 students ages 13 - 19.

Results demonstrated:

  • Since their school buildings closed, young people’s levels of concern about the present and future have increased. For example, more than half of young people (52%) are much more concerned than usual about their own and their family’s physical and emotional health, 39% are more concerned about their current and future education, and 30% are more concerned about having their basic needs met.
  • Indicators of overall health and wellbeing have suffered. More than 1 in 4 young people report an increase in losing sleep because of worry, feeling unhappy or depressed, feeling constantly under strain, or experiencing a loss of confidence in themselves.
  • More than one-quarter of students (29%) say they do not feel connected at all to school adults. Similar percentages do not feel connected to classmates (23%) or to their school community (22%).

Mindfulness is a proven technique to reduce stress and trauma. The need for all children to have access to mindfulness tools to manage difficult emotions such as anxiety and anger is critical.

This summer, Inner Explorer is providing a free mindfulness app that can be used on any device to support you and your family.

Download it to today and start practicing this summer like school counsellor, Allen Regar, does with his boys.

We ask you to please consider donating to Inner Explorer to help us continue to offer our program free of charge and support mental health, especially during these challenging times.
